For guests who want a more economical way to explore Oregon’s coast, yet don’t want to camp, our Oregon Coast-Budget tour is a perfect choice. We stay in nice motels instead of the upscale accommodations used on our Oregon Coast-North tour; and we’ll eat at fine family style restaurants rather than the gourmet dining experienced on the Oregon Coast-North trip.

With its wide, empty beaches and rocky cliffs, the Oregon Coast has some of the most dramatic ocean scenery anywhere. We also explore rural, inland roads lined with emerald-green dairy farms and sparkling clean rivers, as we bike and hike from Astoria to Florence.

We’ll pick you up in Portland on a Sunday morning and head to the northern tip of the Oregon Coast. We start cycling at Fort Stevens State Park, a 3,700-acre preserve that once guarded the mouth of the Columbia River, then ride south to our lodging in Cannon Beach. Along the way, we’ll visit Fort Clatsop National Memorial, where the Lewis and Clark expedition wintered in 1805. The memorial is gearing up for the expedition’s 200th anniversary. We’ll enjoy its re-enactment of Lewis and Clark’s daily life at the fort, with demonstrations by volunteers in period costume.

We spend the night in a motel near the beach in the chic town of Cannon Beach, overlooked by Haystack Rock, one of the world’s largest coastal monoliths. You may browse Cannon Beach’s many shops or explore the beach.
